My Dear Rotarians,
If we collectively wish our club to be an effective one, all of us should willingly participate in
some Club Committees and serve the community. I am trying to give you an overview of the
same. This would probably help you to understand the Club Committees better. More info will
follow later.
Club committees plan, promote, and implement activities and projects that sustain the club
and provide service to communities around the world. If the club’s committees do not function effectively, the club will not be able to reach many of its goals. They are charged with carrying out the annual and long-range goals of the club based on four Avenues of Service.
Members should generally continue for 3 years on the same committee and one third member should retire every year to make way for the new entrants. If the club determines that the committee does not serve a purpose, the committee should be disbanded.
Rotary Family Talent Hunt Program 2005-06 October 8, 2005.
Provide appropriate instruction and orientation.
Plan and conduct productive meetings.
Hold members accountable for the tasks they have accepted.
Inform the club president and board of directors of progress.
Recognize those who have served well.
Clearly defined purpose
Well-formulated goals
Step-by-step plan of action
Open lines of communication among team members and other club leaders
Knowledgeable and motivated team members
Committee members must have a clear understanding of the committee’s purpose in order to effectively establish and achieve goals. To identify a committee’s purpose:
Review the club’s bylaws, which should contain information related to each clubcommittee,
including the committee’s general purpose.
Review the club’s goals for the coming year, to help the committee establish goals that
support the club’s main goals for the year.
Meet with the club’s board and the president, to foster discussion about the relationship
between club goals and the committee’s purpose, as well as the committee’s role in
achieving these goals.
Kindly refer the attached recommended list of Club Committees and let me know the Committees of your interest by 8th April 2005. Should you need any assistance, please free to consult any of the Past Presidents or the PDG in our Club. All Past Presidents are also requested to indicate their preferences for the Committees they would like to provide guidance on.
Thank you very much for your cooperation,
Warm Regards
R K Sinha
President Elect-2005-2006
All existing Directors and Committee Chairs are requested to make a copy of their reports available by 5th April 2005 for sharing with the club
